Beliefs about teaching, Learning and LeadershipMy work as a scholar, teacher and leader is grounded in my belief that quality relationships are foundational to learning. A student’s deep trust in his teachers aids his commitment, motivation and enthusiasm to tackle challenges and solve complex problems. The richness of this relationship fosters a healthy learning environment and a positive family learning community.
Humans are naturally curious as they make sense of their experiences. These curiosities and how one demonstrates his knowledge is dependent on how he is called to cultivate the individual strengths and unique attributes shaped from his feelings and attitudes formulated within a social context. Learners who do with their hands, feel with their hearts, and think with their heads in a balanced curriculum environment become engaged in a manner that grows them artistically, physically and academically. This environment helps each student to become self-confident, self-directed, take risks and value life-long learning. |
Personalized Learning Approach
|
When the whole student is educated by a hands-on, inclusive, inquiry-based interdisciplinary personalized learning approach, not only will the philosophical integrate with the practical, but a strong socially conscious community begins to emerge. This occurs as each student’s talents and skills are celebrated.

community of Leadership |
Leadership encounters many challenges including continuous change, school improvement, community-based governance, shared decision making, building community and being accountable to our mission and each division of learning. These educational hurdles must be tackled through collaboration. The interdisciplinary instrumental and vocal music educator is a key player in developing a network and web of relationships that support the abovementioned work. It is our moral obligation to listen to all of the voices within our school community including educators, staff, students, parents and community members. Nurturing relationships and assisting staff members to create support structures in turn develops leadership in others. I am fully committed as a scholar, teacher, life-long learner and administrative leader to meet the unique needs of each twenty-first century learner.
